Kelengye és fehérnemű 1889/Trousseau and lingerie 1889
Gyorsan haladó időnk csupán a jelennek él és őseink példájának ellenére nem törődik. Ez befolyásolja menyasszonyaink kelengyéjének, az ágy- és fehérnemű összeállítását. Azelőtt ezt 70-80 esztendőre számították, ma azonban helyesen ekként okoskodnak: Az évekig használatlanul a szekrényben hever, megsárgul és törékeny lesz; az idom és díszíték divattalanná válik, ezért tehát célszerűbb és nemzetgazdasági szempontból helyesebb, ha a kelengyére kitűzött tőke egy részét csak évek múlva használják kiegészítő beruházásra. Ez különösen a fehérneműt illeti.
Így például ma már csupán 3 tucat nappali inget látunk 5 tucat helyett, 21/2 tucat lábravalót shirtingből, pongyola kelméből és barhentből, féltucat hálózubbonyt és két tucat hálóinget, mi teljesen elegendő. Ehhez járulnak kellő számú zsebkendők, harisnyák, fodorító köpenyek és alsószoknyák. Azonban a célszerű betegnek való otthonkának sohase szabadna hiányoznia.
Azt a régi meggyőződést, hogy kelengyéhez csakis vászon alkalmazandó, a gyapot- és pamutrendszer nagyon megingatta. A ma már elegánsabb kelengyékhez az egyes fehérneműt egészségi szempontból chiffonból és shirtingből készítik; másoknál ismét a rendszer dívik. Tarkaneműhöz nagyon használják a perkált, batisztot, suraht és foulardot, többé-kevésbé dús szalag és csipke díszítékkel.
Díszes kelengyéknél nem szabad hiányozniuk a társas célokra szánt ingeknek és lábravalóknak finom gyolcs batisztból. Ezek díszítéséhez szeretik használni a drága valenciennes csipkét. Finom vásznat áttöréssel, kézihímzéssel, vert- és horgolt csipkével látunk el. Chiffon inkább szegélydíszítéket kap, azonban még a legegyszerűbb ing és lábravaló is az élénkítő színes szalagot keresi. Előbbiek többnyire vállkapcsolatot mutatnak vagy épp nincs kapcsolatuk. A hosszú angol harisnyák tetemesen megrövidítették a lábravalókat, úgy, hogy a mozgásnál kényelmesen borulnak a térd fölé. A hosszú lábravalók hívei szeretik azokat hímzett bonccal a térd alatt.
Az angol harisnyatartók a derékhoz vagy kerek övhöz kapcsolódnak, sőt a lábravaló és rövid alsószoknya kapcsolatát is eszközlik, melyet különösen testes hölgyeknek ajánlunk. Egészségi szempontból több gombsorral ellátott alsóderekat ajánlunk, melyeken a szoknyák súlya jobban szétoszlik.
A shirting, pongyola kelme és batiszt fodorító köpenyeket kissé hosszabbra szabjuk, legújabban félig testhezállóan. Díszítékük olyan, mint az ingeké. A hosszú fehér alsószoknyákhoz hímzett volántokat, csipkéket vagy madeira hímzést vesznek. A jelzéshez egyes betűket vagy kéziratos neveket használnak. Az ingnél a kézvonást jelenleg oldalt, a lábravalóknál előközépen alkalmazzák.

Our rapidly passing time only lives for the present, and despite of our ancestors' precedent is unattentive. This affects our brides' trousseaus, the bedcloth and lingerie assortment. Before this was calculated for 70-80 years, but today we properly wisen as follows: This lies for years in the closet unused, turns yellow and becomes fragile; the shape and the trimming becomes demode, so it's more expedient and in regard of national economy righter, if to the trousseau appointed capital's some part is only used after years for completive investment. Especially in regard of the lingerie.
So, as example today we see only 3 dozen chemises instead of the 5 dozen, 21/2 dozen drawers from shirting, negligée fabric and barhent, half dozen night jackets and two dozen nightshirts, which are completely enough. Add to this the proper number of handkerchiefs, stockings, combing capes and petticoats. But the practical patient's housecoat should never lack either.
That old conviction, to trousseau only linen is suitable the cotton and woollen system had heavily altered. Now to the more elegant trousseaus, the bedclothes and lingeries, in regard of hygienical issue made from chiffon and shirting; by others again the system is en vogue. To colorful lingerie the percale, batiste, surah and foulard are used severely, more or less with opulent ribbon and lace embellishment.
From rich trousseaus to the social purpose used adorned lint-lawn chemises and drawers shouldn't be lacked. To ornate these the expensive valenciennes lace is liked to use. Fine linen is furnished with brochée, hand embroidery, tambour and crochet lace. Chiffon preferably gains hem trimming, but even the simpliest chemise and drawers too ask for the brightening colorful ribbon. The prior mostly display shoulder closure, or wholly ignore the closing. The long, English stocking had considerably trimmed the drawers, that way, while moving comfortably fall above the knees. The devotees of long drawers fancy to adorn these with embroidered band under the knees.
The English suspender girdles are attached to the waist or a roundy belt, even effect the attachement of the drawers and short (modesty) petticoat, which is highly recommended for stout ladies. In health considerations we recommend several brasted furnished corset covers, on this the petticoat's weight better dissolves.
The shirting, negligée fabric and batiste combing capes are tailored slightly longer, and lately these are demi-close fitted. Their decoration is the same as the chemises'. To the long white petticoats embroidered volants, laces or madeira embroidery sorted. To the sign single letters or signature names are used. On the chemises recently the sign is at the side, on the drawers setted at the center front.
